'He's on the list': Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal are really interested in £30m-rated PL star

On the Here We Go podcast, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano addressed Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s transfer plans ahead of the summer window.

A lot will depend on where the Gunners will finish at the end of this season. A spot in one of the two European competitions will make it easier to land a quality player, but considering our current league position, we should be prepared even if we drop out of the top seven.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

It does look like Arteta and Edu have everything planned for the summer. The Gunners have a number of positions to strengthen, and one of the most important ones is a new right-back, especially if Hector Bellerin leaves.

Romano has now claimed that Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey. The young full-back took the Premier League by storm, and it looks he has impressed Arteta to the point that the Arsenal boss wants him at the Emirates next season.

“We are talking about one of the best young right-backs in the world in my opinion”, said Romano.

“Arsenal are looking at him (Lamptey) as a possible option at right-back. Keep an eye on Arsenal because they are among the clubs interested in Lamptey. There is still nothing advanced, but they are looking at him. He’s on the list, he is considered an interesting player.

“Arsenal will decide in April or May. They are looking at interesting players, good opportunities, and Lamptey, for sure, is on the list.”

Arsenal Insider’s view:

Liverpool Echo recently revealed that Brighton will demand a fee in the region of £30 million for Lamptey.

That is a lot of money for a player who is still only 20 and has played just 20 times in the Premier League. However, his potential looks massive and considering the way he started this season, it won’t be a surprise to see a club splash that kind of cash this summer.

Arsenal have shown we aren’t shy to spend big money, but £30 million on a right-back might be a bit of a stretch. However, if Bellerin can be sold for a similar fee, that money can be reinvested immediately to sign the rapid Brighton defender at the end of this season.
