Fabrizio Romano has shed light on Arsenal’s plans to bring in a new creative attacker in the January transfer window.
The Gunners are going through a rough patch in the Premier League at the moment. We haven’t won a game since the start of November and we look like a side who can’t buy a goal despite having one of the best strikers in the world up front.
Arsenal’s biggest issue now is lack of creativity from midfield. Mesut Ozil’s absence is helping nobody, but that situation doesn’t look like it will change anytime soon.
That increases the need for a new creative midfielder in the January transfer window. Lyon’s Houssem Aouar and RB Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai are in the news on a daily basis these days, and Romano has confirmed that Arsenal are in talks with representatives of both players.
Aouar is on top of Arteta’s wish list
He told The Arsenal Lounge: “Arsenal were talking & negotiating with the agent of Szoboszlai for many weeks. Now he has to make his decision. This week, after the UCL game, he will make a decision. Arsenal are waiting to understand his final decision.”
“Immediately after, if Szoboszlai decides for another club, they can move again on Aouar. They already spoke many times with his agent, also with Lyon. It’s not easy, I’m not expecting an easy deal to sign Aouar in January but for sure he is on top of their list.”
Szoboszlai is an incredible talent. A number of clubs are keen on his signature which makes a move difficult for us. However, if Romano’s words are anything to go by, a decision on his future should be made in the coming days, and Arsenal fans will be hoping that Edu and Arteta have done enough to convince him.
Aouar remains on top of Arteta’s wish list. Arsenal tried really hard to sign him the summer transfer window. Sadly, Lyon’s asking price was a bit too much and we chose Thomas Partey instead.
It will be extremely difficult for Arsenal to lure Aouar away from Lyon in January. However, a move for Partey was described as impossible by many people, but it happened, and so could this one in the next 50 days.
