How Josh Kroenke and Arsenal hierarchy truly feel about huge January transfers amid Mikel Arteta slump

As the January transfer window nears, Arsenal are preparing for the possibility of strengthening their squad for the upcoming Premier League title challenge.

The Gunners are behind the pace in the race so far, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City all in the hunt as well.

There are some big questions for Mikel Arteta to answer, not least following Arsenal’s draw with Everton in the previous match.

It has led to some discussions over which players the side may need to improve the team and to keep themselves in the Premier League title race.

Whether Arsenal can do much in the January transfer window is another point of discussion though.

Can Arsenal sign anyone in the January transfer window?

Arsenal could look to sign some players in the January transfer window, with plenty of links surrounding potential striker and playmaker options.

With Mikel Arteta struggling to get his team creating much in front of goal, those options could be big for the rest of the campaign.

However, if fans were expecting a marquee signing in January, then they will be sorely disappointed in the weeks ahead.

According to ESPN, the Arsenal hierarchy hasn’t been planning to spend big in the window and at the moment, only injuries or unexpected opportunities could prompt them into activity.

Whether that’s down to the nature of the market, the lack of a sporting director or the funding from Josh Kroenke and the Arsenal owners remains unclear, though it’s never the easiest or best market to work in.

It spells bad news in terms of waking up a title challenge that is currently sleepwalking into a top-four race.

It may mean the Arsenal boss has to do his best to work with what he has, while anything else coming in is a bonus.

What Mikel Arteta has said about the January transfer window

It seems as though the manager is aware of the lack of activity Arsenal could do in the weeks ahead, following his discussions on the window.

Speaking ahead of the Everton game, Arteta said: “I never expect January to be super busy but we have to wait and see where we are.

“Some surprises can come. We are prepared for that. Some opportunities too. We have to see. Hopefully, the availability of the squad will be better in a few weeks. We have to wait and see.”

The Gunners have managed to secure some big deals in January in the past, with Leandro Trossard and Jorginho joining the side for relatively cheap.

If Arsenal can somehow magic up a deal or two like that, then perhaps their fortunes can change.
