Journalist claims ‘flying’ £60m Arsenal target would give Arteta ‘something different’

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto, with Mikel Arteta reportedly keen to add extra depth to his attack.

Whilst Arsenal do have a lot of options in wide areas, Neto is perhaps seen as someone who can provide genuine quality competition for Bukayo Saka on the right wing.

Neto has started the season superbly for Wolves, and played an instrumental part in his side’s shock victory over Manchester City.

Journalist and Arseblog host Andrew Mangan has now praised the 23-year-old, claiming that he would offer qualities which are not otherwise present in the Arsenal squad.

Pedro Neto’s different qualities

Speaking on the Arseblog Arsecast Extra Podcast, Mangan has now highlighted why he is a fan of the Portuguese winger.

“I like Pedro Neto. I like a flying winger. I like the excitement of a guy who runs at defences and stuff like that,” he stated.

“[Neto] gives us something different on the right-hand side – that famous cover/competition/back-up or whatever for Bukayo Saka.”

Neto as Saka’s backup?

It is clear that Bukayo Saka will be the undisputed first-choice option on the right-wing, and with a reported asking price of around £60m, it is hard to imagine Neto solely being his backup.

However, Neto’s speed, and his ability to play on both wings, makes him a desirable option. When Gabriel Martinelli was absent for a few games in recent weeks, his speed was particularly missed, and Neto can help provide this as well.

Arsenal’s interest in Neto seems genuine, and given that Saka has now missed his first game in over two years as a result of injury, it may be necessary to add proper cover for him, meaning that the England star is able to manage a lighter work load, and Arteta can have multiple quality options in each position.

If Arsenal are able to land Neto, he would represent yet another young player with significant Premier League experience being signed, and he is a player who can add an extra dimension to Arsenal’s attack.
