Journalist claims PL rivals are now favourites to sign Arsenal-linked 20-goal striker

Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has delivered an update on rumours surrounding the future of Celtic star Odsonne Edouard.

The Frenchman has been one of the best players in the Scottish top-flight over the last few years. He, like many of his Celtic teammates, has struggled this term, but that hasn’t stopped him from scoring 20 goals and picking up five assists so far.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Edouard for a while now. The Gunners were rumoured to make a move for him last summer, but Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both stayed at the club, and we didn’t need a new striker.

This summer transfer window, however, things are likely to be very different. Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun are all expected to move on, and that means that Arsenal will have to sign a new striker.

Watts has revealed that the Gunners like Edouard, but our Premier League rivals Leicester City are apparently the ones in the driving seat for his signature this summer.

He said on his YouTube Q&A: “Arsenal are interested. From what I understand, Leicester are in the driving seat when it comes to Edouard but we will have to wait and see.”

The Insider’s View:

Edouard really is a very like-for-like replacement for Lacazette. The Celtic man’s style of play is very similar to that of his compatriot, and his record in front of goal speaks for itself.

With just a year left on his contract this summer, he will be on the market and Arsenal should make a move for him.

However, with Brendan Rodgers having a close relationship with Edouard thanks to their time together at Celtic Park, a move to Leicester is far more likely – especially if the Foxes finish in the top-four.
