League champions now thinking of signing ‘world-class’ Arsenal star in January transfer window

The summer transfer window shut less than two weeks ago and many clubs, including Arsenal, have already started planning for January.

The Gunners did some good business in the summer. They completed the signings of David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino on permanent deals, while Neto and Raheem Sterling were brought in on loan for this season.

In terms of outgoings, the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah were all sold for good money, with Reiss Nelson, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fabio Vieira and Nuno Tavares leaving Arsenal on loan deals.

In January, if Inter Milan get their wish, another Arsenal player could head out of the door.

Inter Milan’s plan to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu from Arsenal in January

Takehiro Tomiyasu has been at Arsenal for a little over three years now.

The Japan international joined the Gunners from Bologna in the summer of 2021, and he became a fan favourite at the Emirates right on his debut.

Tomiyasu is a phenomenal player and a dream for any manager because of his versatility. However, injuries have been really cruel to him since he moved to Arsenal.

He has missed 47 games in all competitions for club and country since February 2022, and that number will increase in the coming weeks as he’s still currently injured.

That makes you wonder whether Tomiyasu really does have a future at Arsenal – Inter Milan are hoping that he doesn’t.

Inter Live have revealed that the current Serie A champions are interested in signing Tomiyasu in January if Yann Bisseck, who hasn’t lived up to expectations, can be sold.

The report says Inter have liked Tomiyasu for a long time and will try and sign him in January if Bisseck leaves. Arsenal reportedly value him at just €15 million (£12.5m), which is not a lot, but the Nerazzurri’s plan is to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy clause included in the deal.

It has been claimed that the deal could ‘take off’ under the above conditions, but whether the Gunners would entertain this remains to be seen.

Arsenal may have to make tough Tomiyasu decision

Tomiyasu’s value to Arsenal when he’s fit is immeasurable.

The Japanese defender can play in every single position in the backline, and he can fill in as a central midfielder too if really required. There are very few players in the world who are that versatile.

Tomiyasu is absolutely ‘world-class‘ on his day, but the former Bologna man’s injury problems make him very unreliable.

So, as hard as it will be, Arsenal may have to make the tough decision of letting Tomiyasu leave in one of the next two windows.

However, we think the Gunners should demand significantly more than the £12.5 million quoted by the Italian media outlet.
