‘Lots of agents’ wanted to get one player out of Arsenal this summer but he ended up staying

Most of Arsenal’s plans during the summer transfer window came to fruition.

The Gunners went into the market looking for reinforcements in goal, defence, midfield and attack, and they managed to sign players in all of those positions.

Arsenal wanted to get rid of a few players too, and the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Aaron Ramsdale were all sold.

However, one player who Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta were open to selling did not get a move away from the club.

Many agents wanted to get Thomas Partey out of Arsenal

Thomas Partey has entered his fifth year as an Arsenal player.

The Ghana international joined the club in 2020 and was viewed by many as the missing piece in the Gunners’ squad. He is a sensational player and has produced a number of incredible performances.

However, injuries have been really cruel to Partey. He had issues in each of his first four seasons at the club, and that led to many believing that he could be sold.

Chris Wheatley has revealed that Arsenal were indeed open to selling Partey and there was even interest from several clubs, especially from Turkey.

Multiple agents apparently even tried to get a mandate to arrange a transfer for Partey, but no move materialised in the end.

Wheatley said on ShotsTV: “In the summer, I know that Arsenal were open to offers for Thomas Partey and there were a few teams, especially in Turkey.

“Lots of agents were trying to get mandates to get the deal done for Partey. Arsenal were certainly open to letting him go in the summer.”

As Wheatley revealed, Arsenal were open to letting Partey go in the summer, and that would’ve been the right decision if a move materialised.

However, Partey stayed and has had a very good season so far. He started slow, but he has returned to his best level in recent weeks.

That’s probably why Arteta and Edu have a new plan.

Arsenal Insider exclusively revealed recently that Arsenal are thinking of extending Partey’s contract. His current deal expires in July 2025.

It’s not a guarantee yet, but we can confirm that Arteta is really happy with the Ghanaian. If he continues in the same way, there’s every chance he will get a new contract.
