Mikel Arteta shares Arsenal transfers update and reveals new striker search stance

Mikel Arteta has shared a fresh stance on Arsenal’s hunt to sign a striker this summer.

All of Arsenal’s focus is on the opening day battle against Wolves on Saturday afternoon as the Premier League gets underway. 

The Midlands club will travel to North London to commence the 2024/25 calendar, with three points a must for Arteta’s side. 

Speaking ahead of the fixture, the manager’s attention was diverted away from the match momentarily to talk transfers.

In the pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League opener at the Emirates, Arteta was quizzed on the club’s plans ahead of deadline day.

So far, the Gunners have only welcomed Riccardo Calafiori as a new face in the squad, as well as tying down David Raya following his loan spell from Brentford.

One of the leading narratives regarding Arsenal in the transfer window is whether the Gunners require a new striker, which Arteta has now commented on.

“We have really good strikers already we have a great attacking line and I’m really pleased with it,” the manager explained.

Arteta continued to show full support for those already in his squad following calls for the Gunners to buy a new number nine.

“I already said at the beginning that the main focus is to improve our players and find margins that help them find a level that they probably hadn’t even dreamed about.”

Currently, Arsenal’s two out-and-out strikers consist of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, who scored a combined total of nine goals in the Premier League last term.

While Arteta’s identifiable centre-forwards massively underachieved last season, it didn’t affect how potent the Gunners were in the final third.

Only Manchester City scored more goals than Arsenal in the top flight last term, as 91 goals were scored by Arteta’s side, suggesting that the need for a striker is not urgent.

Not everyone is convinced with the North Londoners’ strength in the final third, however, as Alan Shearer backed Arsenal to win the league but only if Edu brings in a reliable goalscorer before deadline day. 

For now, it seems as though Arteta’s focus in the transfer window is far from being ready to break the bank to sign a number nine, with Arsenal’s attack wholly supported by the boss as the new season dawns.
