Arsenal will reportedly consider selling Eddie Nketiah in the upcoming January transfer window.

Eddie Nketiah has shown flashes of real quality for Arsenal this season. He was impressive against PSV Eindhoven last time out in the Champions League, netting for the first time in that competition.

Of course, earlier on in the campaign, he bagged his first ever Premier League hat-trick too, against Sheffield United.

However, despite these memorable moments, the 24-year-old Hale End academy graduate is very much the second choice striker at the Emirates Stadium. Gabriel Jesus is at the top of the pecking order and is in fine form himself. What’s more, Nketiah has had his critics, and there are doubts about his ability to fire the Gunners to a Premier League title triumph if he were required to lead the line week in, week out.

At this stage in his career, Nketiah needs to be playing as regularly as possible. The once-capped England man has been on the books with the north London club since 2015, but for the sake of his career he may have to accept that it is time to move on.

Should Arsenal sell Eddie Nketiah in January?

According to Football Transfers, Crystal Palace are interested in securing Nketiah’s services this winter, and Mikel Arteta will “listen to offers” for the player.

Nketiah would be a brilliant signing for the Eagles. He is a natural finisher, who would thrive off of the service provided by the likes of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze at Selhurst Park. The move would also allow him to remain in his hometown of London.

However, the Gunners should not consider letting the player leave cheaply. Whilst he may not be a truly elite forward, Nketiah is still a proven goalscorer with plenty of potential to improve further. He is a sellable asset that Arsenal sporting director Edu needs to extract the best price out of, should the club decide to part ways with the player.

Selling Nketiah would certainly be one way for Arsenal to boost their limited transfer budget this winter. With defensive signings needed at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners may well need to sell a player or two in order to fund a move for the reinforcements they need in certain areas of the pitch.

That being said, Jesus does not have the most reliable fitness record. There could well come a point this this season when the Brazilian is sidelined and Nketiah would be required to fill in on an extended basis.
