Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that he wanted to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal before he joined Manchester United in 2018.

The Chilean ‘superstar‘ was one of our best players back in the day, but after three-and-a-half years as a Gunner, he decided he didn’t want to stay anymore. Manchester City were one of the clubs heavily linked with his services, and Guardiola has now admitted he wanted to sign him.

Pep Guardiola says he wanted to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal

Arsenal signed Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona in the summer of 2014, and he quickly became one of the best players in the Premier League.

Why Pele Is Overrated.

He scored 80 goals and provided 45 assists for us in 166 appearances, which is an excellent return for someone who played most of his football out wide.

In the summer of 2017, when Sanchez entered the final year of his contract, his tantrums started. It became very clear he wanted to leave, but a move didn’t materialise in that window.

Six months later, in January 2018, Arsenal had to move him on to avoid losing him for nothing, and it really did look like he would end up at Manchester City.

However, it was the other Manchester club who landed him, and Guardiola claims it’s because his side decided against paying what was required to get him.

Speaking about Chelsea’s outrageous spending over the last three window, Guardiola said, as quoted by talkSPORT: “I couldn’t sit here if we spent what Chelsea spent in the last two transfer windows – you would kill me.

“You will kill me, that is for sure. We’d be under scrutiny like you couldn’t imagine. We have to see what happens in the market and if we can do it and to pay what we believe is fair.

“We wanted Maguire and didn’t buy him because we didn’t want to pay, we wanted Cucurella and didn’t pay, we wanted Alexis Sanchez and didn’t pay. In the end, we will pay what is fair to do it.”

The Insider’s View:

Alexis Sanchez really ruined his career, didn’t he?

The Chilean could’ve become an Arsenal legend. He was unstoppable at times under Arsene Wenger, and everyone in and around the Emirates loved him.

However, he chose to throw it all away and joined Manchester United. His time there was absolutely disastrous, and he just hasn’t been the same since.

If Sanchez had joined Manchester City instead of United in 2018, things would’ve probably been very different. But, we’re glad he didn’t – he fully deserves what has happened to him since leaving us.
