Former Arsenal starlet Chuba Akpom could be set for a Premier League return in the coming hours ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 28-year-old came through the Hale End academy and made 12 appearances under Arsene Wenger before departing in 2018, and after a spell in Greece, he eventually found success at Middlesbrough.

The striker scored 28 goals last season for the Championship side, and earned himself a move to Dutch giants Ajax.

Ajax have had a disastrous season so far, but he has scored nine goals in 20 games this season. Nevertheless, he could be on the move.

Nottingham Forest make move for Chuba Akpom

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Premier League side Nottingham Forest, whom Arsenal beat 2-1 on Tuesday night, had an offer rejected for Akpom, but are still looking to bring him in today.

“Nottingham Forest are now trying again for Chuba Akpom after Ajax decision to reject opening bid,” he posted on X.

“Akpom wants Nottingham Forest but depends on clubs.”

Although he failed to score a senior goal for Arsenal, Akpom was a highly-rated prospect in the Arsenal academy when he broke through in 2013.

He impressed Wenger, who praised him in 2015 when it appeared that he was ready to make an impact in the first team.

“I know he has potential, he has an aggressive desire in the box and can brush people away,” Wenger stated of Akpom.

“He has that intense desire to score that is a good basis and I believe as well it is an encouragement for him to work even harder to show he can play in the first team.”

A combination of injuries and an eventual lack of opportunities limited Akpom’s chances of success at Arsenal, but it now appears that he could finally gain another Premier League chance over 10 years later, and given his exploits in other leagues, it would be a fully deserved one.
