The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Arsenal scouts would be watching Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey in action in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Jamaican has started the season brilliantly. His performances have helped Leverkusen sit second in the Bundesliga table, and their win yesterday secured the top spot in their Europa League group as well.
Bailey, yet again, was the star of the show. He started on the left flank for just the third time this season yesterday, but that didn’t stop him from increasing his goal involvements for the campaign.
Bailey scored twice in 24 minutes yesterday
The 23-year-old scored a fantastic brace in the space of 24 minutes. The double last night takes his goal tally to seven for the season, and he has six assists to his name as well in what has been a phenomenal individual campaign so far.
Arsenal scouts would have thoroughly enjoyed his performance if they were really in attendance at the BayArena yesterday. The report claimed that representatives from Tottenham, Everton and Manchester United were also expected to keep an eye him, and he would have impressed everyone.
Bailey has more goal involvements than any Arsenal player this season. The Gunners can’t seem to figure out how to score in the Premier League at the moment, and a player of the Jamaican’s quality could help solve that.
However, there is no way Leverkusen will let him leave in the January transfer window. The German outfit are not in need of money at the moment after making a mammoth profit on Kai Havertz in the summer. (Sky Sports)
Bailey also has over two-and-a-half years left on his current deal. Leverkusen will be able to fend off any bids if they come in next month, but a potential departure in the summer is a serious possibility.
Sky Sports reported in July this year that Bailey is keen to play in the Premier League. If he continues his brilliant form until the end of the season, there will be plenty of clubs interested and Arsenal could well be one of them.
