According to a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation of Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal, who is currently on loan at Real Betis.

The Gunners are expected to very busy in the summer transfer window. We need to strengthen multiple areas of the pitch, but a new right-back may well be a priority if Hector Bellerin decides to leave the club.

CBS Sports revealed last week that the Spaniard is considering his future at the Emirates. He was very close to leaving the club for Paris Saint-Germain last season, but Mikel Arteta convinced him to stay put.

That might not be the case anymore as Bellerin’s form has dropped significantly. The 25-year-old was even left out of the squad in our last Premier League game against West Ham, and that might well be a hint about his future ahead of the summer window.

The Spaniard is still highly-rated in Europe and he will not be short of offers. Arsenal will likely let him go and if a latest report is to be believed, Edu is looking at a fellow Brazilian to replace Bellerin at Arsenal.

Emerson to replace Bellerin?

Emerson Royal will return to Barcelona at the end of his loan spell this season. The Catalans only own half of his rights at the moment, but they are obligated to pay £7.75 million to Betis to acquire full ownership of the talented full-back.

Since the start of last season, the Brazilian – compared to Dani Alves – has scored five goals and has provided 10 assists for Betis. His value is rising considerably and it will not be a surprise to see Barcelona cash-in on him this summer.

Arsenal could do with a player like Emerson. He has all the quality to become a top full-back very soon, and considering that he is only 22 years old, he is definitely one to consider to replace Bellerin.

The problem Arsenal face is that Barca will owe Betis 50% of the fee they sell Emerson for this summer. That might make the Catalans demand a big transfer fee – something that may well be beyond our reach.

However, with Ronald Koeman’s side reportedly interested in Bellerin, Edu can negotiate some sort of a swap deal that would keep all parties happy in the summer transfer window.
