Here we go again.

The summer transfer window is fast approaching and Arsenal are being linked with familiar names. This time, however, the rumours may have some truth in them.

We all remember how Mikel Arteta and Edu tried incredibly hard to sign Lyon star Houssem Aouar last summer. We reportedly had multiple bids rejected, and we only turned to Thomas Partey after we failed to land the mercurial Frenchman.

Arteta is still a huge admirer of Aouar. The Lyon playmaker is almost guaranteed to leave this summer, and predictably, Arsenal have been credited with an interest again.

However, we aren’t the only ones in the race.

CalcioMercato (via Il Bianconero) claim that the Gunners are battling Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to sign Aouar this summer.

It is claimed that the Old Lady are leading the race at the moment and have a solid plan ready. They are prepared to offer Mattia De Sciglio, who is currently on loan at Lyon, and Federico Bernardeschi as part of a deal to sign Aouar.

Do Arsenal have a chance?

It looks extremely unlikely at this point.

Lyon are reportedly demanding a fee in the region of £47.5 million. That’s not a lot of money for a club like Manchester City, while Juventus’s ability to offer players in exchange puts them ahead of us as well.

It is very difficult for Arsenal, but it’s not impossible.

Aouar is an exceptional talent and signing him would be incredible for us. However, it’s not a big issue if we miss out on him, especially if we turn around and sign Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal instead.
