Report: Arsenal decide William Saliba's loan destination; medical underway

Arsenal have accepted an offer from a French club to send William Saliba on loan until the end of the season, but it’s not Saint-Etienne.

Nice-Matin claim that the young French defender will join Nice on loan. The deal will not include an option to buy as Mikel Arteta, Edu and everyone at Arsenal view him as a huge part of our future.

Sadly, that hasn’t quite been the case. Saliba is yet to play a single senior game for us. Arteta doesn’t believe that he isn’t quite ready yet, and the young Frenchman has been left frustrated as a result.

A loan back to France could do wonders for the teenager. People’s opinion have been divided over whether he is ready for the English game or not. Arteta has had his say on that already and a temporary move away was the only logical option this month.

Nice are a good club for Saliba

Nice are in a difficult moment in Ligue 1 at the moment. They sacked Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira not too long ago and have won just once in all competitions since the start of December.

Saliba will learn a lot in Nice if the move goes through. If he learns to deal with adversity at such a young age, he will become mentally stronger and that will help him deal with all the hardships he might have to face later on in his career.

The report claims that medicals have been scheduled for this morning. As soon as that’s done, Saliba will sign his contract and he will spend the next six months on loan loan at Nice.

If he can impress there, he will come back raring to go. Arsenal will lose three defenders in the summer, if not more. Saliba could come back and stake a claim for a role next to Gabriel, and that would finally justify the big money we splashed out for him in 2019.
