Report: Arsenal eye £35m star and rapid 20-year-old to replace Hector Bellerin

CBS Sports revealed yesterday that Hector Bellerin is considering his future at Arsenal beyond the end of this season.

The report claims that French champions Paris Saint-Germain are set to revive their previous interest in him, and there is a good chance that this deal could materialise this summer.

Bellerin will have just two years left on his contract in July. Arsenal will either have to extend it or sell him, and the latter looks a lot more likely considering that we might need to raise funds through player sales this summer.

The report claims that Mikel Arteta and Edu already have two names on their shortlist if Bellerin is sold – Norwich City’s Max Aarons and Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey.

Max Aarons

The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Norwich City for a while now. Even Arsenal reportedly wanted him when Unai Emery was still at the helm, and we could’ve signed him for about £15 million then. (Read here)

He is now worth a lot more if reports are to be believed. Sky Sports recently claimed that Norwich have slapped a £35 million asking price on Aarons, who is attracting interest from German giants Bayern Munich.

Edu will have to use all the tricks he has under his sleeves to get this deal done, but with Bayern reportedly involved, it will be extremely difficult.

Tariq Lamptey

The Brighton and Hove Albion star took the Premier League by storm at the start of the season. His brilliant performances made many clubs stand up and take notice, and it looks like Arsenal were one of them.

Lamptey, a rapid right-back, would be the ideal replacement for Bellerin whose best trait is his speed as well. However, this deal will not be easy to complete either in the summer.

The 20-year-old signed a new contract just over a month ago. Brighton will demand a huge fee for their talented young defender, and that could well be beyond Arsenal’s reach, especially if we drop out of Europe.
