Report: Arsenal eye move for £10m ex-Gunner who Wenger released in 2017

According to a report from The Daily Mail. Arsenal have scouted and are considering a summer move for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara.

Mikel Arteta will be short of options in central midfield this summer. Dani Ceballos is expected to move on at the end of his loan spell, while Joe Willock, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi could leave the club as well.

That leaves Arsenal with Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny in the middle of the park. That is not enough for a whole season, and it looks like Arteta is prioritising a move for a new midfielder this summer.

Looking Back At OUR Euro 2020 Predictions

As we all know already, Brighton star Yves Bissouma is Arsenal’s number one target this summer. The Mali international is viewed by many as the perfect partner for Partey, but he is expected to cost over £40 million, and that may well be beyond our reach, especially if we drop out of Europe.

As a result, Arteta has identified a cheaper alternative to Bissouma, and it’s none other than recently-crowned Scottish champion Kamara.

The Rangers star knows Arsenal really well having spent five full seasons in our academy between 2012 and 2017. He only managed one senior appearance under Arsene Wenger and was released in 2017 after failing to reach the level we all thought he would.

Four years after he left Arsenal, Kamara is one of the best players in the Scottish top-flight. He has made a real name for himself under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox and it won’t be a surprise to see him make the jump to a bigger club this summer.

The Insider’s View:

Mikel Arteta will do everything he possibly can to sign a new midfielder for next season and if he gets his way, it will be Bissouma from Brighton. However, it is unclear if the Arsenal boss will be given enough money to spend this summer, especially if we don’t win the Europa League.

The report claims that Kamara will be available for just £10 million this summer – over £30 million less than what Brighton are expected to demand for Bissouma amid interest from multiple Premier League clubs.

Kamara is no Bissouma, but he is still a very good player. He can play as a number six and also in a box-to-box role, which would give Arteta multiple options in terms of team selection.

Bissouma will remain Arteta’s main target for this summer, but if we can’t get him, don’t be surprised to see Arsenal bring Kamara back to the Emirates.
