Arsenal are battling Everton, West Ham and Brighton in the race for 18-year-old Fulham defender Ibane Bowat, according to TeamTalk.
The Gunners have been very active with respect to academy recruitments.
Per Mertesacker has brought in the likes of Omar Rekik, George Lewis, Nikolaj Moller, Tim Akinola and Jonathan Dinzeyi over the last year.
It is clear that Arsenal want bolster their academy squad and it looks like Bowat is Mertesacker and Steve Bould’s next target in sight.
The teenager will be out of contract this summer.
Fulham are trying extremely hard tie Bowat to a professional contract in West London, but increasing attention from other big clubs could make it extremely difficult for Scott Parker and co.
A 6ft 2in tall classy left-footed defender, Bowat can play in his natural centre-half role as well as at left-back.
His quality at such a young age has impressed many, and the fact that clubs will only have to pay a small compensation to sign him makes him a very attractive option this summer.
A move across London to Arsenal makes a lot of sense for young Bowat. However, with so many teams battling for his signature, it might not be too easy for Mertesacker, Bould and co ahead of the end of the youngster’s contract.
