According to AS, Arsenal have made an offer to sign Real Betis and France star Nabil Fekir, but the Gunners’ opening bid is set to be rejected.

It is no secret that Mikel Arteta is on the transfer market looking for a new playmaker. Multiple reports have claimed that Martin Odegaard is our number one target this summer, but Defensa Central revealed over the weekend that Real Madrid are planning to offer him a new deal.

If the Norwegian signs an extension, our hopes of bringing him back will die. That forces Arsenal to look for a different option and Fekir is reportedly the one we’re considering at the moment.

AS claim that the offer Arsenal have tabled at the moment is nowhere near what Betis want for their star. ESPN have backed the Spanish outlet’s claim and have revealed that the Gunners’ opening bid is reported to be in the region of £20 million.

Should Arsenal sign Nabil Fekir?

Former Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny is a huge fan of Fekir. The Frenchman, who knows the playmaker really well, has heaped praise on him on multiple occasions, but his words from 2016 is one that always spring to mind.

He said, as per ESPN: “Nabil has got huge technical skills. He’s a bit like Messi with his small steps when he runs with the ball in one-on-one. He’s able to make a difference on the pitch, with a good one-on-one or with an assist or a goal.”

That is massive praise from Koscielny and it is one Arteta might have heard about. However, is that enough to convince the Arsenal boss to bring him to the Emirates? We’re inclined to say no.

Yes, Fekir is an outstanding footballer and yes, there’s a good chance he will be a huge success in the Premier League. However, the risks outweigh the rewards here.

The former Lyon man will turn 28 soon and has a worrying injury history. He has missed 55 days due to muscular issues in the last two seasons, which is not ideal at all, especially considering the intensity of the Premier League.

Fekir is a great player but Arteta and Edu should look elsewhere.
