According to Le10 Sport, Arsenal have jumped back into negotiations with Olympique Lyonnais to sign Houssem Aouar this summer.

The Gunners were linked with a move for the talented Frenchman for months last year. He was undoubtedly our top target, but Edu and Mikel Arteta couldn’t get the deal over the line, and he stayed put as a result.

Things have changed this time around as Aouar is expected by almost everyone to leave Lyon. Arsenal are said to be interested again, and if the report is to be believed, talks between the two clubs are progressing very well.

Arsenal have sent an official offer for Houssem Aouar

The report claims that Arsenal have tabled an official bid to sign Aouar this summer. Lyon are not standing in the Frenchman’s way this time around. They are happy to let him leave if their new valuation is met.

Les Gones wanted a staggering £55 million for Aouar last year, but that price has dropped considerably. The report reveals that Lyon are ready to sell him for a fee between £17 million and £21.5 million this summer.

It is claimed that Arsenal’s opening offer isn’t far off that mark and a deal could really be completed soon.

The Insider’s View:

Arsenal are in need of a new number 10 after Martin Odegaard returned to Real Madrid. The Norwegian was Arteta’s number one target this summer, but that deal seems impossible now.

The Gunners are looking for a replacement and Aouar checks all the boxes. The Frenchman, labelled as ‘incredible‘ by Pep Guardiola, is a fantastic player, and Arsenal’s interest in him last summer showed that Arteta clearly likes him.

If a move could be completed for around £20 million this summer, Aouar would not be a bad option at all. However, the Gunners have been linked with someone like James Maddison as well, and if a deal can be agreed to bring the Englishman in, he should be the priority.
