Report: Arsenal ‘in the front row’ for previously linked maestro then worth £12m; now valued at £51m

Arsenal have reportedly reignited their interest in Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan according to reports in Spain.

The print edition of Marca claim via Sport Witness that the Gunners are ‘in the front row’ to sign the deep-lying playmaker.

Jordan signed for Sevilla in 2019 and has since flourished into one of the club’s top-performing players. The midfielder was part of the squad that won last year’s UEFA Europa League.

Arsenal have previous links with Jordan

Arsenal were once linked with Jordan under Unai Emery according to AS in the same summer the midfielder joined Sevilla.

As per the report, the former Eibar star was available for just £12m. Now, the 26-year-old has a release clause of €60m (£51m).

With Sevilla finishing in the top-four last season, Jordan will compete in the UEFA Champions League once again for the Andalusian club. Arsenal, on the other hand, will play no European football for the first time in 26 years

As per the Marca report, Jordan is viewed as one of Julen Lopetegui’s “untouchables”, and the midfielder could be set to receive a new deal from Sevilla based on his performances over the past two seasons.

The Gunners are likely to lose as many as three central midfielders as reported by Football London.

Granit Xhaka is nearing a move to AS Roma, whilst Matteo Guendouzi is close to joining Marseille in Ligue 1. Lucas Torreira is also expected to leave this summer.

Arsenal’s search for a central midfielder will likely be long, arduous and stressful. Yet supporters should not be too concerned about the club’s pursuit of Jordan.

The playmaker will likely remain with Sevilla with a new contract on the horizon and Champions League football to contend with next season.

Although Arsenal have been linked before, it is unlikely this would sway Jordan into making a move to the north London side.

With a £51m release clause as well, Arsenal will likely be financially priced out of a move for the Catalan maestro, with the Gunners heavily linked with Premier League stars Ruben Neves and Yves Bissouma.
