Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is in search of a new midfielder to replace Granit Xhaka and 90min have revealed today that Manchester United star Donny van de Beek is in his sights.
The Dutchman joined the Red Devils from Ajax for £35 million last summer. (BBC) He was expected by almost everyone to become a huge hit in the Premier League but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, for some strange reason, refused to play him regularly.
My Revenge On Ben Foster
Van de Beek started just four games in the Premier League last season. He played less than 1500 minutes in all competitions, and Solskjaer himself admitted that he isn’t happy at Manchester United. (Goal)
That has alerted Arsenal boss Arteta, who is now interested in the Dutchman. The report claims that the Gunners have already contacted United and have asked to be kept informed about the midfielder’s future.
Donny van de Beek would be an amazing signing for Arsenal
Arsenal need to replace Xhaka as soon as possible and a number six who can come in and protect our backline has to be the priority. However, we will also need to bring in someone who can progress the ball from central midfield and can chip in with a few goals as well.
Van de Beek, labelled as a ‘brilliant football player‘ by Scott McTominay, would be perfect for that role.
The Dutchman was one of Ajax’s best players during his time there. In his last two seasons in Amsterdam, he was directly involved in a staggering 51 goals in all competitions. That is simply mind-blowing.
Van de Beek’s transfer value is surely not what it was a year ago. If Edu can work his magic and lure the fantastic Dutch midfielder to Arsenal for about £30 million, it could prove to be his best piece of business as our technical director.
However, it is really unlikely that United would allow him to join a direct rival in Arsenal this summer.
