According to Què T’hi Jugues on Cadena Ser, as relayed by Spanish outlet Sport, Arsenal and Barcelona want to sign Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemeka.

The summer transfer window is just around the corner, and it is no secret that the Gunners are on the lookout for a new central midfielder. Leicester star Youri Tielemans is reportedly our top target, but it looks like we’re keen to sign a youngster as well.

Chukwuemeka is reportedly that player, and Arsenal could get him for a bargain fee this summer.

Chukwuemeka, still only 18 years of age, is one of Aston Villa’s finest talents. He has been at Villa since 2016 and has progressed through the ranks over the last six years.

The teenager will soon enter the final year of his contract, and although Steven Gerrard wants to keep him at the club, there’s a good chance he’ll leave, with a number of top clubs keen to lure him away.

Barcelona are one such club, and it has been claimed that the Catalan chiefs met with Chukwuemeka’s agents this week to discuss a potential deal to sign the Aston Villa wonderkid this summer.

Arsenal are also reportedly keen to sign him, and the fact that Arteta has shown he’s always willing to give young players a chance could act in our favour if we make a move for him.

The next Jude Bellingham

Barcelona and Arsenal aren’t the only clubs who have watched Chukwuemeka, German giants Borussia Dortmund have as well.

Back in March this year, The Daily Mail revealed that BVB are keen to sign the Aston Villa wonderkid this summer, and they believe that Chukwuemeka can follow in the footsteps of another 18-year-old English sensation, Jude Bellingham.

The England international joined Dortmund from Birmingham City in the summer of 2020, and he has been magnificent. He’s arguably the best young midfielder in world football at the moment, and his value is reportedly as high as £100 million now.

There’s no way Arsenal can sign Bellingham this summer, but if Chukwuemeka is the next best player of that age available, he may well be worth a shot for Arteta and Edu.
