According to a report from Il Bianconero, Arsenal are still interested in Juventus’ centre-half and summer target Daniele Rugani.
Unai Emery’s side tabled a two-year loan offer for the Italian in the summer transfer window but failed to convince the Serie A champions to part ways with their defender. (The Times) Rugani is yet to feature for the Old Lady this season and the end seems to be near for him.
Arsenal’s defensive woes have been evident for some time now and the short-term fix in David Luiz hasn’t quite worked out. The Gunners have conceded 14 times already in the league and have dropped points from a winning position on two occasions.
However, with Rob Holding back in full fitness and William Saliba set to join us in the summer, is Rugani the player we should be looking at? Once thought to be among the biggest prospects in world football, Rugani has failed to live up to the expectations.
Arsenal should look at someone currently in their prime or another prospect who is destined for greatness like Saliba. Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano would be the obvious choice especially with his contract running out in 18 months.
Arsenal need to be shrewd with their defensive signings and Rugani isn’t the player who would solve our problems. Emery should pass on the opportunity to sign him even if he is available for a bargain in January.
