Serie A side Fiorentina will make a ‘take it or leave it’ offer to sign Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira this week, according to La Nazione.

The Uruguayan is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid but speculation surrounding his future just won’t stop. Torreira hasn’t played regularly at the Spanish capital and reports have suggested that Arsenal might call him back.

Edu Gaspar, our technical director, recently claimed that Arsenal are concerned about Torreira. He revealed that many clubs have been in contact with him to enquire about the midfielder’s availability. (Read here)

It now looks like Fiorentina are one of those clubs constantly in touch with Edu. The report claims that there is definitive contact between the Italian club and Arsenal, and ‘a take it or leave it’ offer is on its way.

Fiorentina want him on loan until the end of this season with an obligation to buy clause for a fee not exceeding £9.8 million.

That is about a third of the fee we paid to sign Torreira back in the summer of 2018. (BBC) We can all guess Edu’s response to this offer if it’s made before the window shuts on Sunday.

£9.8m for Torreira is a joke

Torreira has two-and-a-half years left on his contract. He is still only 24 and despite what has gone on over the last 12 months, he is a fantastic midfielder.

It does look like Atletico Madrid don’t fancy him at the moment and the chances of him returning to Arsenal are pretty high. Edu will look to ship him out on loan or sell him permanently if that happens, but a £9.8 million offer is laughable.

Arsenal paid £26 million for Torreira 30 months ago. There is no way we’ll make a profit on that, but a £16 million hit on a player who has proven he can play at the highest level would be one of our biggest transfer blunders ever.

Edu should just look at the offer, have a little chuckle and throw it away.
