Arsenal are keeping tabs on Palmeiras’ Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Veron, according to a report from La Nazione.
The teenager is one of South America’s finest young talents at the moment. Veron is expected by many to make the big jump to Europe very soon, and he isn’t short of suitors.
Italian giants Juventus and Fiorentina are keen to sign the youngster, as are Manchester United and Arsenal. Veron will attract many more clubs if he continues his fine development, but Arsenal might just have the edge over their competitors.
Another Edu masterclass?
Our technical director Edu is highly respected in Brazil. He has excellent connections in South America, and his words will make a huge difference when Arsenal are working on signing players from that part of the world.
Just look at Gabriel Magalhaes. The Brazilian had offers from plenty of clubs in the summer – some more lucrative than ours. However, Edu pulled it off and he is proving to be an incredible signing.
Edu’s most impressive coup, however, is that of Gabriel Martinelli. Nobody knew who he was when we signed him at the start of last season from the fourth tier of Brazilian football, but he quickly made the world stand up and take notice of him.
Martinelli scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 15 starts last season. He is arguably the best young attacker in the Premier League at the moment, and Veron could well be the same if we manage to sign him.
The 18-year-old has scored eight goals and has provided three assists in 12 starts this season. Multiple clubs are in discussions to sign him, but Palmeiras’ £23 million asking price is proving to be the stumbling block.
However, Edu’s influence could change that. The Arsenal invincible knows how to work with clubs in Brazil, and if he is really keen to sign Veron, we should consider ourselves as the favourites.
