According to a report in The Sunday Mirror (August 15, page 68), agents of Martin Odegaard will fly over to London today to work out a deal with Arsenal ahead of a potential move.
It has been no secret that the Norwegian is Mikel Arteta’s number one transfer target. We’ve been trying to bring him back since the end of last season, but the uncertainty surrounding his future at Real Madrid complicated things for us until now.
However, that is set to change soon. Odegaard has decided to leave Real Madrid this summer and Arsenal are the likeliest destination. However, contrary to speculation, it is set to be another loan deal, claims the report.

The report claims that negotiations will focus on a season-long loan deal before being given first refusal on a £30 million permanent signing next summer.
We can’t decide if that’s a good deal or a bad one.
On one hand, signing Odegaard on loan would cost us next to nothing. That will help us secure our other big targets – a new striker, right-back and a goalkeeper to compete with Bernd Leno in Arsenal’s goal.
Contrarily, is it really worth our time helping someone improve just for him to leave next season? This is a really difficult decision for Edu and Arteta, but Odegaard would be an incredible signing.

Odegaard, as he showed last season, would instantly solve that problem. His vision is absolutely fantastic and as Arteta rightly described in March, he is an ‘incredible’ and a ‘very intelligent’ player.
With James Maddison proving to be too expensive and Houssem Aouar nowhere near the top of our wish list, Odegaard seems like the best available option. Edu and Arteta should find a way to get this done in the coming days – hopefully, on a permanent deal.
