According to The Daily Mail, Arsenal have opened talks with Norwich City to sign Emiliano Buendia in the coming weeks.
The Argentine international has been linked with a move to the Emirates for a while now. He has been a star in the Championship and deservedly won the player of the season award last month.
Norwich have reportedly accepted that Buendia will leave Carrow Road this summer. Aston Villa joined the race for the £40 million-rated attacker recently and that has forced Arsenal to step up.
Richard Garlick is pushing to sign Buendia
Richard Garlick is now Arsenal’s new director of football. The Englishman will be in charge of player contracts at the Emirates, and the report claims that he has already decided his first move in his new role.
Garlick wants his first signing at Arsenal to be Buendia. He believes that Argentine’s acquisition will ensure that his tenure gets off to a strong start and he is reportedly determined to make that happen in the coming weeks.
The report claims that Norwich are expecting a bid in the region of £35 million plus add-ons, which should push the fee up to the £40 million mark. That is a lot of money, but Buendia’s numbers suggest that he could be worth every penny.
The Insider’s View:
Arsenal are never really active this early in the summer. We always leave negotiations until the end of the window and that has cost us multiple targets over the last few years.
Aston Villa’s reported interest and Garlick’s arrival seem to have accelerated that process, and that is excellent news for Arsenal supporters. Talks have reportedly begun, and if things really go our way, Buendia could become a Gunner before the Copa America starts in the second week of June.
Buendia is everything Arsenal fans wanted Willian to be. He can play on either wing and in a number 10 role, and unlike the Brazilian, he has been incredibly prolific over the last 12 months. That seems to have convinced Arteta and co, and it really does look like it could happen soon.
