According to Cadena Ser, Real Madrid are now set to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak this summer.
The Athletic first revealed the Gunners’ interest in the Swede, who was one of the best players in La Liga last season. Cadena Ser backed that claim a few days later, and it really did look like Arsenal were keen.
Isak scored 17 goals in all competitions for Sociedad last season. That is an outstanding return for a 21-year-old, and he has been absolutely brilliant for Sweden as well in their opening two games at the Euros.

BBC pundits Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand were blown away by the Swede’s display at the Euros last week. The former labelled him as ‘magnificent‘, and you can’t really disagree with that assessment, especially considering how good he has been for club and country over the last 12 months.
Real Madrid want Arsenal-linked Isak as Haaland and Mbappe are too expensive
Arsenal’s interest is completely justified, but we have a huge problem now. The financial impact of the global pandemic has made life extremely difficult for most clubs in the world, and Real Madrid are one of them – well, sort of.
The Galacticos have been dreaming of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe for quite some time now, but the pair may just be out of their reach this summer. As a result, they’re reportedly eyeing a move for Isak, who’ll be a lot cheaper than the two golden boys.

Huge blow for Arsenal?
Signing Isak was always going to be difficult due to Borussia Dortmund’s buy-back clause but Real Madrid’s interest now makes it almost impossible.
The Gunners are reportedly ready to spend some big money this summer, but can we really outspend Real Madrid? We don’t think so.

Even if Arsenal could match Real Madrid’s financial power, it’s not often that you see a player snub the Galacticos for the Gunners, especially when we have no European football to offer for next season.
If Real Madrid really want Isak, they will get him, and there’s nothing Arsenal can do to stop that.
