According to a report from The Sun, new Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira wants to sign Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson on a season-long loan deal in the coming days.

A lot is expected of the legendary Frenchman at Selhurst Park. Obviously, Eagles fans want him to succeed, but Arsenal supporters would like him to do well too, apart from the two games against us in the league next season, of course.

Vieira has already managed to sign a few quality players, but he wants more. A wide player is reportedly a priority for Palace at the moment, and if The Sun are to be believed, Nelson is on top of their wish list.

Nelson, labelled as a ‘special player‘ by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, is hugely talented. He is rapid, can dribble past plenty of players and his shooting is not too bad either, especially considering that he’s still only 21.

Palace have Wilfried Zaha and Ebe Eze, who are two of the most exciting players to watch in the country. Nelson, in ways, is very similar to them, and he would certainly be a brilliant addition.

The report claims that the Eagles are preparing a loan offer for Nelson soon. He is one of their top targets this summer, and Vieira will likely use his connections at Arsenal to get this done before the start of the new season.

Contract dilemma

It makes a lot of sense for Arsenal to loan Nelson out so that he gains some much-needed experience. However, the young Englishman’s contract situation will surely complicate things for the Gunners in this window.

Nelson has entered the final two years of his contract. The Athletic revealed over a month ago that the Gunners are willing to offer the 21-year-old a new deal before sending him out on loan this summer.

However, nothing has changed since the report emerged. Arsenal simply cannot allow Nelson to enter the final year of his contract. If he refuses to sign a new deal this summer, he has to be sold – either to Crystal Palace or to any other club in the world.
