According to a report from The Sun, super agent Jorge Mendes is in constant contact with Arsenal technical director Edu over a summer move for Ruben Neves.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers star was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates last month. He was tipped to replace Granit Xhaka at Arsenal, but the rumours have since cooled down.

Many felt that Arsenal have moved on from Neves, but if the latest report is to be believed, Edu hasn’t given up just yet.

Wolves’ asking price for Ruben Neves proving problematic for Arsenal

The report claims that Arsenal are still keen to sign Neves this summer, but his transfer value is causing problems.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly demanding a fee in the region of £35 million for the Portuguese international. That has become a stumbling block in negotiations, and that is why Arsenal are yet to make a concrete offer for him.

However, Mendes is an expert at getting his clients the moves they want. Neves, if reports are to be believed, has his heart set on a move to the Emirates this summer, and his super agent knows how to get deals like this over the line.

The Insider’s View:

A valuation of £35 million is fair for a player of Neves’ quality. The Wolves star is still only 24, Premier League proven, a full Portugal international and still has three years left on his contract.

Wolves are right demand what they’re demanding and the ball is in Arsenal’s court now.

The Gunners need a quality player to replace Xhaka and partner Thomas Partey next season. We’ve been linked with a whole host of names already, but we aren’t close to signing a top midfielder just yet.

If rumours are to be believed, Manuel Locatelli is our priority target and we are trying hard to sign him. However, it looks like he is on his way to Juventus now. That could force the Gunners to prioritise a move for Neves instead and there’s a decent chance that this could happen in the coming weeks.
