According to Voetbal 24, Thierry Henry has advised Arsenal to sign Anderlecht star Albert Sambi Lokonga this summer.
Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad reported earlier this week that Arsenal are seriously interested in signing the 21-year-old defensive midfielder.
Lokonga has made a brilliant name for himself in Belgium. He has been really good over the last two years, so much so, that he has been compared to Barcelona legend and Henry’s former teammate Sergio Busquets. (Read more)
Henry has advised Arsenal to sign Lokonga
The report claims that the legendary Frenchman has put in a good word at Arsenal on behalf of Lokonga. Henry, who recently returned as Belgium’s assistant manager, must have seen the young midfielder play plenty of times over the last two years.
If the report is true, he’s a big fan and his words of advice to Arsenal seems to have worked.
It is claimed that the Gunners are now convinced about Lokonga and are readying a bid to sign him. He is set to be available for a fee between £13 million and £17 million, which shouldn’t be a problem at all for Arsenal this summer.
The Insider’s View:
Lokonga is a very good player, there’s no doubt about that.
His positioning is very good, his tackling and interceptions are excellent and his ability to recover possession before driving into the opposition half and having an impact there is really impressive as well.
However, the biggest issue for Arsenal is his lack of experience. We need someone to come in and replace a seasoned campaigner in Granit Xhaka, and as good as Lokonga is, he doesn’t check that box.
Arsenal should be looking at someone who can come in and improve our side straight away. Yves Bissouma is definitely someone who can do that, and if a move for the Mali international is possible, picking him over Lokonga is a no-brainer.
