Sandro Tonali dominated the headlines on transfer deadline day after claims emerged that Arsenal were in talks to sign him from Newcastle United.
It became very clear to everyone that the Gunners were on the market for a new midfielder after Mikel Merino’s foot injury, which is set to keep him out of action potentially until the end of the season.
Sky Sports Germany claimed early in the morning that Arsenal have opened talks to sign Tonali. That raised the excitement level among the supporters.
Sandro Tonali to Arsenal on deadline day – yes or no?
Newcastle United sources dismissed those reports, and David Ornstein later revealed that Tonali’s agent was the one who offered the player to Arsenal.
Now, the said agent has had his say.
Sandro Tonali’s agent breaks silence on Arsenal links
Sandro Tonali has been linked with a move away from Newcastle United for about a year now.
The Italian is a fantastic midfielder, and he is destined to play for a bigger club one day. His agent’s job is to make that happen.
Ornstein saying that Tonali’s representative, Beppe Riso, offered him to Arsenal made big headlines, not just in England but in Italy as well.

Sky Sports Italia asked the agent for a comment on the report, and he outright denied it.
He said, as quoted by Football Italia: “I read it (Ornstein’s comments), but Newcastle won’t let Sandro leave in January, and we never talked to Arsenal about this.
“We will evaluate in March whether Newcastle are open to anything, but right now he is playing in the Champions League, it is not the right moment to talk about it.”
Should Arsenal make a move for Sandro Tonali in the summer?
There is a big chance that Tonali will leave Newcastle United in the summer.
Arsenal are expected to be on the market for a new midfielder then, and if the Italian becomes available, he should be considered by Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta.
What is the maximum fee Arsenal should pay to sign Sandro Tonali?
Tonali can play as a number six as well as in a box-to-box role. His range of passing is exceptional, he can score from distance, and his ability off the ball is very good too.
To add to that, Tonali will only be 26 in the summer. He wouldn’t even be in the prime years of his career, which makes him a very attractive option.
If a move is feasible, we think Arsenal should get him.
