Teddy Sheringham has claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson would’ve beaten Arsenal to Declan Rice’s signature if he was still Manchester United’s manager.
The 25-year-old has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season. He has been incredible for Arsenal, and we’re not surprised that many ex-Manchester United players are jealous that we got him.

Arsenal signed Declan Rice for a club-record fee back in last summer’s transfer window.
Almost everybody knew he was going to be a success at the time, and Rice has not disappointed. He has been unstoppable for the Gunners from the very first game of the season.
Arsenal are in a fantastic position now, while Manchester United are nowhere near where they should be after spending so much money under Erik ten Hag.
Many fans, pundits and even ex-players are criticising their recruitment, and Teddy Sheringham has now jumped on the bandwagon.
The former Manchester United and Tottenham man has claimed now that if Sir Alex Ferguson was still at Old Trafford, he would’ve ‘snapped up’ Rice before he moved to Arsenal last year.
He said on talkSPORT: “The problem for Man United for me is the leadership qualities. You look at the players who were available in the summer. For me Harry Kane and Declan Rice. Years ago, under Fergie, they would have been snapped up.
“At least they would have been in for those type of players. This summer they weren’t even in for the players and that was the disturbing thing for me.
“Once you get players like Kane and Rice playing the game professionally week in, week out, leading by example, other players follow. At the moment you have players at Man United who are looking after themselves rather than each other.”
Arsenal are better than Manchester United
One thing Manchester United fans and ex-players conveniently forget these days is that they are not the club they once were.
Back in the day, Old Trafford was one of the most attractive destinations for any top player. Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager almost everyone wanted to play under.
Now, they are a shadow of what they were, and even if United were in the running for Declan Rice along with Arsenal last summer, they would’ve never stood a chance.
The England midfielder even snubbed Manchester City to join us, so it makes us laugh that some people think Manchester United should’ve been in the race to sign him last year.
