Thomas Partey’s time at Arsenal appears to be in its final days as the Gunners are lining up a deal to sign his replacement.
It’s been a dramatic summer on the transfer front for Partey, who looked set to stay at Arsenal despite his contract expiring on June 30th.
The Ghanaian was crucial to Mikel Arteta’s squad over the 2024/25 campaign; however, a deal has still not been struck to see his time at the Emirates extend.
Arsenal offered Partey a new deal, and though it’s understood that the player is happy in North London, his exit now looks to be a certainty rather than a possibility.

Thomas Partey expected to leave Arsenal
As Arsenal launched a bid to sign Christian Norgaard, the possibility of Partey staying in N5 decreased considerably.
The Gunners bid £9.3m to sign Norgaard, who, with 122 Premier League appearances to his name, would be a suitable candidate to bolster depth in midfield.
What was interesting about David Ornstein’s report on interest in the Dane was how it related to Partey, as The Athletic states that ‘as it stands’, the Ghanaian will leave Arsenal as a free agent.
In a window where attacking signs are priorities, it would be a surprise to see Arsenal overload in midfield, unless there was a key exit anticipated, which appears to be the case for the 32-year-old.

How Christian Norgaard compares to Partey
Being a proven leader and an assured presence in the engine room, a move for Norgaard makes sense, particularly as the Gunners could strike a cost-effective deal.
Not only is the Dane a positional equal to Partey, but his numbers reveal that he’s more than capable of playing a starring role in N5 in place of the Ghanaian.
| Statistic | Thomas Partey | Christian Norgaard |
| Appearances | 35 | 34 |
| Goals | 4 | 5 |
| Assists | 2 | 4 |
| Key passes | 0.6 | 0.5 |
| Pass success % | 89% | 83% |
| Interceptions | 1.0 | 1.4 |
| Tackles | 2.5 | 2.3 |
| Recoveries | 3.9 | 5.7 |
There are traceable similarities to the two players’ respective seasons in the 2024/25 Premier League, making the transfer all the more understandable.
It’s uplifting to learn that, after failing to agree a deal with Partey, Berta is operating proactively to replace Arsenal’s number five, who will leave a sizeable void in Arteta’s squad.
