Arsenal’s academy has been the home to many top-class players over the years.
Some of them have made it to the first team and have thrived. Bukayo Saka is the perfect example of that, while the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly are now getting opportunities.
Others, however, decided that they weren’t going to get senior chances and left the club before they could even make their first-team debuts.
One such player could now inflict pain on Arsenal as Tottenham are eyeing a move to sign him in the ongoing transfer window.
Tottenham are keen to sign ex-Arsenal forward Donyell Malen
Donyell Malen was one of the most talented youngsters in Arsenal’s academy during his time at the club.
The Dutchman, hailed as an ‘extremely fast and very dangerous’ player by Mario Gotze (Bundesliga.com), joined the Gunners’ youth setup from Ajax in the summer of 2015, when he was just 16 years of age.
He impressed everybody at the club and even earned opportunities to train with the first team under Arsene Wenger on several occasions.
However, just two years later, Malen wanted to play senior football, which is something that Wenger couldn’t offer him. So, he was sold to PSV for just £500,000 (Sun).
Now, after three-and-a-half years at Borussia Dortmund, Malen is on the market, and CaughtOffside claim that Tottenham want to sign the former Arsenal player.
The report says that Spurs are ‘keen’ on Malen and are now having internal discussions over whether to make their move in this window.
Malen is not a superstar by any means, but it would still be annoying for us Arsenal fans to see him play for Tottenham if they manage to sign him.

Arsenal fans will love what Malen has already said about the Gunners
Malen left Arsenal over seven years ago, but he still has a lot of love for the Gunners.
The Dutchman has been linked with a move away from Dortmund on many occasions over the last few windows, and a number of clubs have shown interest.
Manchester United wanted him when Erik ten Hag was at the helm, but Malen publicly claimed that Arsenal was his favourite club.
When asked in 2024 if there’s a club he would love to sign for, he said: “I want Arsenal, my favourite club.
“Yes [about returning there]. I played there in my youth, I really wanted to break through there so yes.”
