Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer as they aim to land the right striker for Mikel Arteta.
It comes as no surprise that the Gunners are turning to the transfer market for a centre-forward, with goals coming at a premium in the past season.
In Viktor Gyokeres, there is a chance for Arsenal to land a proven goalscorer, someone who knows where the back of the net is.
While initial talks have been held between Arsenal and Gyokeres over a move, there are other options being looked at.
However, if the Gunners do land on the Swedish international as their choice of striker, then it will be one that comes with some real pedigree in front of goal.
If the clinical star does make his way to the Emirates Stadium, there may be some awkward conversations surrounding his squad number.

Viktor Gyokeres’ squad number history
In his career so far, Gyokeres has featured for several different clubs, spanning from those in Sweden to England and, most recently, Portugal.
Arsenal’s squad number history has had plenty of iconic names become associated with their respective shirt numbers, and the striker has an opportunity to become the next one.
The current options are rather limited, however, as the obvious number nine shirt is currently taken by Gabriel Jesus, meaning a request would have to be made for a change of ownership.
| Club | Numbers |
|---|---|
| Sporting CP | 9 |
| Coventry | 17 |
| Swansea | 14 |
| St. Pauli | 9 |
| Brighton | 42 |
| IF Brommapojkarna | 15, 17, 25, 27 |
The number 17 shirt is currently held by Oleksandr Zinchenko, who faces an Arsenal exit in the coming weeks.
15 is another shirt taken, with Jakub Kiwior currently holding that number, though there are others that are free to take.

Available squad numbers at Arsenal
There is one single-digit squad number available to Gyokeres, which is the number three following Kieran Tierney’s exit, though that would be an unorthodox option for a striker.
The number 10 will be available once again, along with 13,14, 16, 20 and 21 as the more high-profile options.
Beyond them, 24-32 will be options on the table, 34-40 are also available, along with 42-48, 50-52 and 54 onwards.
It remains to be seen which one he could take, if given the option at Arsenal.
