Arsenal transfer target Pedro Neto sustained an injury this weekend.

Arsenal may now be reassessing their plans for the upcoming January transfer window, as Wolves winger Pedro Neto was stretchered off with a suspected hamstring injury on Saturday.

Neto looked distraught as he was taken away from the pitch at Molineux. If this injury is as serious as it appeared, then he is set for a significant spell on the sidelines. This would be a heartbreaking setback for the 23-year-old who has already had a number of significant injuries in his career.

This news may also impact Mikel Arteta’s transfer plans. As reported by The Mirror, the Gunners are considering a January move for Neto. However, this latest injury could well give the north London club pause for thought.

There is no doubting Neto’s talent. It has been said that he would be the perfect back up option to Bukayo Saka.

However, given he sustained a serious knee injury in April 2021, which kept him out of action for almost a full year, there is a chance that the player’s body will always be prone to fitness issues due to the lasting damage of that knee problem.

Arsenal must make smart decision over Pedro Neto

Arsenal simply can’t afford to invest heavily in a player whose fitness can’t be trusted. For all his quality, reliable availability has to be a serious consideration in any transfer.

There are already a number of injury-prone players on the books at the Emirates Stadium. The north London club have suffered in recent times due to the fact that the likes of Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus, and Oleksandr Zinchenko pick up fitness issues with such regularity.

If Neto is now set for another period on the sidelines, Arteta will have to accept that it would be irresponsible to invest the club’s funds in a player who hasn’t proven that he can stay fit for an extended period. After all, the “electric” wide man wouldn’t come cheaply. Wolves are thought to want £60 million for him, as reported by TeamTalk.
