What Thomas Partey ‘intends’ to do at Arsenal amid recent transfer links to Saudi Arabia

Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder, and Thomas Partey’s future at the club is far from certain.

The 31-year-old hardly featured for most of last season as he was struck down by injury again, but returned in the final few weeks of the campaign to start at the base of midfield.

Partey has been linked with an exit this summer. Jorginho is set to stay after signing a one year deal, and the expectation is that a new midfielder comes in to sit behind Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

Arsenal Insider revealed that whilst Mikel Arteta is open to selling Partey, the midfielder remaining at the club cannot be ruled out, and it has now emerged that this is his intention this summer.

Thomas Partey wants to stay at Arsenal

Speaking on Charles Watts’ YouTube channel, CBS journalist James Benge revealed that Partey’s intention is to stay at Arsenal for the final year of his contract, and contrary to previous reports, there have been no talks over a move to Saudi Arabia.

“From what I understand about Thomas Partey’s situation, he intends to stay for the final year of his contract,” he stated.

“Everyone talks about Saudi Arabia – there’s been no conversations with PIF so far & no offers from any other Saudi clubs.”

When fully fit and firing, Partey is an outstanding midfielder and possibly the perfect option at the base of midfield given his ability to bring the ball out from deep and distribute it well.

However, his appearances last season showed that his mobility is not what it used to be; after several long-term injuries this was to be expected.

Arteta simply cannot rely on Partey to stay fit, and as one of the highest earners at the club, there is great financial benefit in a sale this summer if a replacement comes in.

Arsenal are well aware of Partey’s quality, but if no offers come in for him, then they will have to hope he remains fit and of some use to the club, given that he will likely depart at the end of his current deal rather than signing fresh terms.
