What Viktor Gyokeres did to send clear Arsenal transfer message amid £85m release clause hint

Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres has continued to show his class heading into the new season, with a potential transfer message for the Gunners to listen to.

Mikel Arteta is in the market for a possible striker option, with some showing concern for the lack of a clinical option upfront at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have three options already in Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, though that could soon change.

Nketiah has been linked with a transfer exit, while the need for a certified goal scorer in the squad is clear.

Viktor Gyokeres is an option for Arsenal in the transfer market, following a campaign where he scored 29 goals in 33 league games for Sporting CP.

With an £85million release clause, the Gunners could seal a deal with relative ease if they want to invest that.

So far, the North London outfit haven’t done so, but they could be tempted after the latest round of fixtures.

Viktor Gyokeres scores twice for Sporting CP

Gyokeres managed to score twice for Sporting CP in a 6-1 rout over Nacional in Liga Portugal action, continuing his ideal start to the campaign.

The match took his tally up to three for the season, showing that his quality hasn’t diminished after injury cut his campaign short last time out.

The Swedish international could yet convince a team to trigger his huge release clause, having proven himself at the top level.

His manager, Ruben Amorim, discussed as much ahead of the game on Saturday, saying: “We don’t control the transfer market.

“Among the players who had the most impact last year, it would be a sign of good money coming in.

“We want to develop young players. If they leave, it would be a sign of good money coming in. I’m not worried at all.

“It’s a Champions League year. We want to be champions again. We’re very focused, but anything can happen until the end of the transfer market.”

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will firm up their interest and make an effort to sign Gyokeres before the window closes.

Arsenal striker transfer decision

So the question remains on whether Arsenal need to sign another striker or not for the season ahead.

Havertz has already proven himself as a capable number nine, while Jesus has that quality few others can bring on the ball.

In essence, the decision over a striker boils down to the future of Nketiah during the final weeks of the transfer window.

The forward offers that box presence and has that clinical edge to his game that perhaps a few in the squad may lack.

Should the striker move on this summer, then another option would have to be signed as a replacement.

In that case, Gyokeres may be one of several options who could be good enough to be just that.
