Arsenal’s deal to sign Martin Zubimendi is all but complete, but the transfer is set to be delayed by at least a month.

The Gunners have long been linked with the Spanish midfielder, who has impressed for both club and country.

With Martin Zubimendi becoming available, Arsenal have quickly pounced to land the Real Sociedad star this summer.

They will beat the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool to his signature, landing an important piece of the puzzle for Mikel Arteta.

While Zubimendi to Arsenal is as good as done, there have been some concerns surrounding how long the announcement is taking.

The delay is for one clear reason, with fans forced to wait another month before seeing the new signing unveiled.

Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal transfer delayed due to accounting dates

Martin Zubimendi is waiting on an Arsenal medical before he can be officially signed on as a Gunners player.

There may be something of a wait for that, due to the upcoming international break, where he will be away with Spain.

That isn’t the only reason for a delay, however, as The Athletic reports that Real Sociedad have asked for the deal to be completed in July.

This is due to their accounts, with the new financial year in football turning over in July, allowing them to spend more freely as of next month, with the profit booked for that year.

It means Arsenal fans may be made to wait another few weeks before the announcement of Zubimendi, but there seems to be no threat of the deal being cancelled or falling through, barring any issues in the medical.

Arsenal will want Martin Zubimendi’s deal done in time for pre-season

Getting the deal for Zubimendi done early can allow for things behind the scenes to move swiftly, such as the player moving to England, settling down and getting used to his surroundings.

From a footballing standpoint, Arsenal will want the deal done early to also get him used to his new teammates and fit enough to play regularly from the start.

Arsenal’s pre-season will kick off in July, with a tour taking place in Asia, which includes the first-ever North London Derby abroad.

Having Zubimendi in place for that will be key, while the Gunners could look to get others through the door before then.
