Arsenal star Tommy Setford was involved in a whirlwind match for England in the under-19s European Championships, which saw an incredible fightback for the Young Lions.

The young goalkeeper was called up to join the England squad for the Euros in Romania this summer, with the aim of winning the whole competition.

It has been a challenging start for the side, however, after a draw to Norway in their opening match of the group stages.

While Tommy Setford struggled in the opener, he was given another chance for England in their clash with Germany.

The Hale End academy star, who has his sights set on a place in the Arsenal side one day, certainly played his part in a stunning match at the Arcul de Triumf Stadium.

Tommy Setford struggles as England under-19s roar back to draw against Germany

While Setford struggled for England in their opener against Norway, which ended in a 2-2 draw, he was given another start against Germany.

It wasn’t an easy match for the Arsenal goalkeeper once again, as the goals came pouring in from the opposition.

Goals from Noah Darvich and Said El Mala came on either side of Joshua King’s finish for England, before Max Moerstedt, Leopold Wurm, and El Mala scored again to put the side 5-1 up just after half-time.

Some of those finishes left Setford helpless, as they were simply good moves from the opposition, but there were some struggles, particularly with a near-post finish he could’ve dealt with.

England roared back, though, as Ethan Wheatley, Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny, Zach Abbott and Jesse Derry all scored in an 11-minute spell to bring the side level.

Setford had his part to play in the Three Lions landing an important point, making a late save in injury time to deny Paris Brunner.

However, after the display, it’s clear that the goalkeeper now needs to make a move this summer.

Tommy Setford needs an Arsenal loan after goalkeeper reinforcements

Arsenal are set to have a strong group of goalkeepers heading into next season, with Mikel Arteta blessed with many options.

David Raya is the undisputed number one choice between the sticks, cementing himself there after another impressive season.

Beyond him, Arsenal are set to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga as their second-choice, finally adding another senior permanent option to the squad.

Last season saw Neto join on loan from Bournemouth, while before that, it was a battle between Raya and Aaron Ramsdale.

The addition of Kepa should create plenty of competition, even with a relatively established hierarchy.

In the academy ranks, there is plenty of quality, as Alexei Rojas, Lucas Nygaard, and Jack Porter are all coming through.

That leaves Setford in an awkward position between battling for a place in the academy side or playing as a third-choice for the senior squad.

What he needs, at this moment in time, is more game time, and a loan could certainly help with that.

The EFL could be the perfect move for him at this stage in his career, with plenty of options available to gain some valuable experience.
