Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has punished Ainsley Maitland-Niles after the Englishman attempted to force his way out of the club through an Instagram post.
The Athletic revealed yesterday that Everton have tabled a loan with an option to buy offer to sign Maitland-Niles. The 24-year-old was really happy with the offer and was desperate for it to go through, but Arsenal turned it down.
Maitland-Niles was not a happy man. He took to Instagram to express his frustrations. He wrote: “All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gone play”. Arteta, predictably, wasn’t too pleased.
Arteta has forced Maitland-Niles to train alone
According to a report from The Mirror, Arteta has forced Maitland-Niles to train alone – away from the first-team squad. He has not been given permission to join the group at the moment, even though Arsenal want to keep hold of him.
The report claims that Arsenal have told him he will not be with the first-team squad for the rest of this week. That is a clear sign of punishment as the transfer window shuts tonight and there’s no point in keeping him away from the group from tomorrow if Arteta plans on using him.
It will be interesting to see how this saga plays out. With a few hours left in the window, Maitland-Niles could still get his wish, but the clock’s ticking and if anything has to happen, it has to happen now.
