Arsenal’s performance against Brentford infuriated everyone, including Pablo Mari who reportedly swore at Bernd Leno after an incident in the first half on Friday.

The Gunners were woeful from start to finish. The Bees looked solid on the ball, were excellent in transitions and completely dominated Arsenal in duels for first and second balls across the pitch.

Arsenal looked like the newly-promoted side on Friday, which is a big concern. Things just didn’t click for us, so much so, that Mari had a go at Leno in the first half.

Why Pablo Mari swore at Bernd Leno?

Brentford’s Brian Mbuemo had a field day against the Spanish defender. Mari, usually excellent with respect to his positioning, was there for the taking on Friday – even when he was in possession.

Every time he received a pass from Leno or Ben White, he seemed nervous, which is very unlike him. At one point, the German goalkeeper decided to give the ball to Mari and the Spaniard was quickly put under pressure by Brentford attackers.

He struggled for a bit before clearing the ball, and he made sure to let Leno know exactly how he felt about the pass. “Bernd, f***ing hell,” he yelled at the German, who wasn’t too pleased about his teammate’s reaction either. (Football London)

Should Pablo Mari start against Chelsea?

Arteta prefers a left-footed centre-half at left centre-back and with Gabriel Magalhaes out for a while, Mari is our only option. However, with big Romelu Lukaku set to start against us next weekend, Arteta has a decision to make.

Rob Holding has played on the left side of central defence in the past and he has performed really well. The Englishman usually steps up in big games as well, which could open the door for him against the Blues next Sunday.

White can also play there, with Holding or Calum Chambers slotting in on the right. The former Brighton man could also prove to be a better option than Mari, who’s really struggling for form at the moment.
