The Athletic revealed a couple of weeks ago that Arsenal had opened talks with Sheffield United over a deal for Aaron Ramsdale.
The Gunners are on the market looking for a new goalkeeper this summer. Bernd Leno’s future is up in the air, while Runar Alex Runarsson is expected to leave soon. Maty Ryan is no longer an option either, which leaves a big hole in our goal.
Arteta will need to bring in a top-quality goalkeeper to compete with or replace Leno. Rumours about Ramsdale didn’t really please Arsenal supporters, and thankfully now, the Englishman is reportedly set to stay at Bramall Lane.

Aaron Ramsdale wants to stay at Sheffield United amid Arsenal links
Yorkshire Live revealed on Wednesday that the Englishman is expected to tell new Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic that he wants to stay at Sheffield United.
Ramsdale, labelled as ‘fearless’ by Alan Shearer, is currently away on holiday after being in the England camp for over a month during the Euros. He will get some time off, but once he’s back, he is set to dawn the Blades’ colours for a season in the Championship.
Arsenal have dodged a bullet here
Multiple rumours over the last month claimed that Ramsdale was our number one goalkeeper target. That made no sense to Arsenal fans whatsoever, especially after our well-publicised interest in Andre Onana.

Ramsdale is a decent goalkeeper and he will surely play a big part in Sheffield United’s bid to return to the top-flight. However, he is nowhere near good enough to displace Leno at the Emirates next season.
If the report is true, Arsenal really have dodged a bullet here. Edu and Arteta will now have to look for a different goalkeeper on the market, and there are a decent number of options to choose from based on our links.

Onana will undoubtedly be almost every fan’s pick. The Cameroonian will not cost a lot, is good with the ball at his feet and has proved himself in Europe for a few years now. Arsenal should go back in for the Ajax star, but there are other clubs keen as well. That will surely complicate things.
