The mood around the Emirates is slightly better this week thanks to Arsenal’s convincing win against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started his first game since falling ill and the Gabon star returned with a bang. He scored a brilliant goal in the second half and that should increase the positivity ahead of our big game on Thursday.
We have to admit that Villarreal were the better side last week. If it wasn’t for Bernd Leno, Unai Emery’s men could’ve killed the tie, but thankfully, we are alive and Arsenal’s latest tweet has made fans more optimistic than ever.
Arsenal released training pictures today, and Alexandre Lacazette and Kieran Tierney look like they have recovered. Of course, it’s impossible to determine if they’re ready by just looking at a picture, but it is still a huge positive.
Mikel Arteta was asked about the pair’s availability for the game against Villarreal and the Spaniard said, as per Arsenal.com: “They haven’t trained with the team yet so I think they’re unlikely to be (fit for Thursday).”
Some Arsenal supporters now think Arteta is playing mind games with Emery. Many feel that Arteta is holding Tierney and Laca back just to surprise his predecessor in what is our biggest game of the season yet.
That would be a smart move but the training pictures does give it away doesn’t it? Either way, having Tierney and Lacazette back would be a humongous boost for Arsenal, and it will increase our chances of victory considerably.
