Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe stole all the headlines for Arsenal after their goals last night and rightly so, but Gabriel Magalhaes’ match-winning contribution deserves more praise.
Crystal Palace were all over us after Christian Benteke equalised. The Eagles had multiple chances to punish us, and one of those opportunities came just a few moments before Martinelli scored the winner.
Wilfried Zaha was sent through on goal and not many people in world football can keep up with his pace. However, Gabriel raced back and stopped the Palace star brilliantly, and that truly stunned Arsenal fans.
If the Brazilian hadn’t caught Zaha, he would’ve been one-on-one against Bernd Leno. Knowing the Ivorian, he would’ve most likely scored, and that could’ve cost us the game.
Thankfully, Gabriel showed the world what he is capable of and he deserves a ton of credit for that.
The Brazilian’s acceleration is one of his biggest assets. He has had a slight dip in form in recent weeks, but he has still been a phenomenal signing for us, and the fact that he is still just 23 means that he will only get better in the coming years.
Arsenal fans were surprised to see Gabriel’s burst of pace at the end of the game. Gooners were truly wowed by what they saw, and many took to Twitter to heap praise on the big Brazilian.
