Arsenal take on Tottenham in our final pre-season game on Sunday and it looks like the Gunners have already secured the bragging rights.
Spurs have finished above us in the Premier League in each of the last five seasons. That’s impressive for them, but our trophy count has gone up in the same period, while Tottenham’s drought has continued.
If things weren’t bad enough at club level, being a Spurs player isn’t fun on the international stage either. Tottenham new boy Bryan Gil learnt that lesson in Tokyo in the final of the Olympics on Saturday.
Gabriel Martinelli secures bragging rights for Arsenal over Tottenham
Martinelli’s Brazil faced Gil’s Spain in the final at the International Stadium in Yokohama. The South Americans were the favourites to bag the gold all along, and although it wasn’t straightforward, the Seleção secured the win.
Arsenal’s star boy Martinelli is now an Olympic gold medalist. Although the little Brazilian didn’t get the amount of game time we all would’ve liked, he stepped up when required in the semi-final and smashed home an emphatic penalty.
Gooners, predictably, are delighted for Martinelli. After a very difficult year with injuries, the youngster deserves a gold medal around his neck, and the fact that he has got one over a Tottenham player makes it even more special for us.
Arsenal fans don’t really need a reason to make fun of Tottenham, but we have a new one now. Martinelli has clearly taught Gil that North London is red, and Gooners are making their voices heard on social media.
