After three defeats in three, some Arsenal fans are calling for Mikel Arteta’s head and former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is many people’s preferred option to replace the Spaniard at the Emirates.

The Italian led Inter Milan to the Scudetto last season. The Nerazzurri were absolutely incredible under Conte, but disagreements with the board saw the 52-year-old walk away from the job in the summer.

Conte is now available and Arteta’s job is said to be at risk. If things don’t improve at Arsenal, the Spaniard will be shown the door, and Gabriel Marcotti has revealed that the Italian would be open to joining the Gunners.

Antonio Conte would consider an offer from Arsenal

Asked about Conte to Arsenal, Marcotti said on ESPN’s official YouTube channel: “There’s no question in my mind. In fact, several people have suggested to me that Arsenal have been approached by intermediaries, just in case they decide to despatch Arteta.

“Equally, from what I was told, Arsenal aren’t entertaining that notion, for the time being. They’ve got two games coming up against Norwich and Burnely, and they’ll see where they are then.

“But, there’s no doubt Conte wants to get back in the game. The Premier League has a ton of appeal, especially a big London club like Arsenal.”

The Insider’s View:

If Arteta is sacked, Conte will surely be very high on Arsenal’s wish list. The current managerial market isn’t great and the Italian is arguably the best available option at this moment in time.

Conte knows the Premier League well having won it a few years ago with Chelsea. He has been successful everywhere he has been over the years, which makes it a no-brainer for Arsenal to consider him.
