Andrea Berta could already be about to do something that Edu Gaspar never did in five years at Arsenal

Andrea Berta replaced Edu Gaspar as Arsenal’s sporting director at the end of March.

The Brazilian spent over five years at the Emirates Stadium, and he mostly did a very good job. He was the one who started this project under Mikel Arteta.

But, Edu, like anyone else in sport, had his flaws, and some of them did have a negative impact on Arsenal during his time at the club.

Berta is far more experienced at the top level than Edu, and Arsenal fans are hopeful that he will do a better job in his very first window.

What Andrea Berta is about to do at Arsenal that Edu Gaspar never did

One of the biggest issues Arsenal fans had with Edu Gaspar was the speed at which he operated.

The Brazilian liked to take things slow in the market, and sometimes it felt like forever before he tabled a bid — even when everyone knew that Arsenal wanted to sign the player.

Throughout his time at Arsenal, Edu never signed a single new player early in the window.

The only deals he struck very quickly were the permanent signings of Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares – they both spent the previous six months on loan and weren’t technically ‘new’ players.

Now, just seven days into the transfer window, Berta is closing in on his first signing.

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea as a backup to David Raya.

If things go to plan, the signing will be completed within the first 10 days of the transfer window – Edu never managed to do that at Arsenal.

The three signings Andrea Berta needs to make at Arsenal after Kepa Arrizabalaga

Signing Kepa is a good start by Andrea Berta at Arsenal.

A bargain move for a backup goalkeeper who is vastly experienced at the top level is excellent business, but the Gunners need more in the coming days.

We hope Berta will get these three signings over the line before pre-season starts:
